“We joined the Hong Kong Student Science Competition held on 22nd – 23rd April, 2023 at the Hong Kong Design Institute. Our project is about an automated IoT-based water quality monitoring system. Instead of the costly and inefficient traditional way of checking water quality by testing water samples manually, we proposed an alternative that uses sensors to collect data and share them via the Internet. This lowers the risk of human error and reduces labor. Although our project won the first runner-up in the senior invention section, our success was not achieved without obstacles. It was very difficult to fit the project work into the busy schedule of high school students. Fortunately, with the aid of our teacher advisor, Mr. Mok, we finally managed to have a clear division of labor and finished our project on time!

Overall, this experience did not only allow us to acquire the knowledge and skills in constructing a functioning machine, but also  broadened our horizons in seeing how people solve the various problems in life with science. Hopefully, our invention can bring some degree of convenience to our targeted users. We will absolutely recommend this competition to anyone interested in developing innovative ideas and putting them into action!”
