Journey to Zheng Sheng College

On 15th January 2010, True Light Middle School of Hong Kong organized a Wife-Life Learning Day to encourage students to broaden their knowledge and vision through interactive learning outside classroom. Students in different forms were organised to visit different sites. We, the F.3 classes, had an invaluable opportunity to visit the Christian Zheng Sheng College at Chi Ma Wan . It was my first time to visit a school and share our experience with other students. I felt very nervous though excited when I first heard about the field trip.

Originally I didn’t have much knowledge about Zheng Sheng College. It was through media where I first heard about its background. At the beginning, I had to admit that my impression was a bit towards negative as I thought Zheng Sheng College could be a school with rude students speaking foul language and having unruly behavior. Students there were all sentenced by the court. However, the in-depth sharing with the Zheng Sheng students has proven that I was wrong.

A form-five Zheng Sheng student, Ho, was my guide. “It’s my school badge. It is like a labyrinth. The star in the middle is the place where we meet our God. We have finally found our way. ” Ho first introduced their school badge to us which was carved on a stone. I carefully looked at the badge and was equally impressed about its design and the meaning behind it. We then walked to the boys’ dorm up a slanting road. Ho told us that they had to carry heavy materials like a large pack of sand and rocks walking on this road to reach their school building.

Afterwards, we sang different songs to praise the Lord and had a sharing session with the students there. A girl, Yin, said she has changed a lot in Zheng Sheng. In the past, she could not control her own emotions and often fought with others who had different opinions. After receiving repeated counselling from her teachers and friends, she has learned to be patient and more willing to understand different people’s opinion. As such, her character has changed a lot and has become more mature and considerate. She now also understands how to love and respect her family and care about each of her family members through more talks and sharings in order to re-establish her broken family relationship.

This site visit provided me an invaluable opportunity to learn about the life
