English Week 2014
The theme for this year’s English Week is “A Greek Walkthrough: From Geek to Guru”. Our Language Prefects worked hard to design many interesting and entertaining English game booths to go along with the theme of Greek Mythology. An inter-class competition called “Mount Olympus Jeopardy” was also set up for S1- S3 to participate in. Participants gained a new understanding on how ancient Greece and their culture has transformed to modern day.
A “Language and Symbol Wall” was on display in which S1 to S4 students produced four different genres of writing. After each form was introduced to a Greek character that symbolized a specific attribute, students created a poem, poster, lyrics or diary entry based on the same topic.
The Hall activity period was held on Day 1, March 3 during the 8th period. A 35-minute drama that includes two Greek myths was performed. The first one was “Pandora’s Box” and the second one was “King Midas and the Golden Touch”. The drama depicted how the English language in modern day has been influenced by stories of Greek mythology.
